Dr Richard Leyrer has passed away

Dear WAKO fiends,

With great sadness and regret I have to inform you that WAKO IF vice president and president of Hungarian kickboxing federation, Dr. Richard Leyrer has passed away.

Dr. Richard Leyrer

Dr. Richard Leyrer was one of pioneers of kickboxing and WAKO. For fifteen long years Richard and me, as WAKO IF presidents, were fighting together, side by side, for our sport and our WAKO. For all these time I had always considered him as one of my closest friends and I always felt nothing but great respect and friendship to him.
He was always giving all of himself for kickboxing, for athletes, for his federation and of course, WAKO. He was building up what we have now, the best, strongest and only one recognized World wide kickboxing federation.
Please, let us all convey our deepest condolences to his family.
Let us all remember Dr Richard Leyrer for the great things he has done and only as a great man as he was.
Let him rest in peace.

Dr. Borislav Pelevic
WAKO Europe President

Irish Open - 2015

Dear Coaches

We would like to once again invite you to the largest fighting tournament in the world today.  2014 was an amazing year for us, we broke all records for the fourth year in a row, surpassing all our expectations.  we really are delighted with the continued positive feedback from coaches and fighters alike from our post event survey, amazingly 99.8% of coaches intend on returning in 2015.  The Irish Open is run by fighters for fighters in aid of a very worthy harity, the Irish Society for the protection of Children. Please do not forget that it is unique in this regard in that nobody gets paid at all, every penny of profit is donated to the ISPCC. No other tournament in the world today offers 17 7x7 meter matted areas, two 8 x 8 matter areas for forms and one/two rings. It has become the most prestigious fighting tournament in Europe if not the world.

We are very grateful to our Premium Platinum main sponsors Airtricity, Top Ten, SAP, and KWON for their support for the event and the charity itself.

The 2014 Irish Open Event saw 37 Countries attend with over 3,500 competitors.  It is officially the biggest event in the WAKO Calendar. We had the greatest fighters in the world today converge on Dublin to see who really is the best.

We continue to strive to make our event better for the fighter and to this aim we have changed some things The BIG change this year is that we have added a -12 years old points section for boys and girls to ensure fairness and increased participation of children who are the life blood
of our sport.  We have added 24 sections to this group, to improve the cadet experience.

We must thank the referees over the years, to many to mention, but we really do have the best officials in the world, whose only focus is the safety and enjoyment of the fighter without politics or favor. Our volunteers are legendary, 140 people helping out over three days to make
our experience more enjoyable.

We would like to remind you that all adult registrations take place on Thursday/Friday 2nd March and All Junior/Cadet registrations take place on Saturday 3rd March, NO registrations or Weight control will be done on Sunday the 4th March.  Open committee is delighted to once again associated with the Irish Society for prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC). The Logo for 2011 was "DOING IT FOR THE CHILDREN" and it really was a very good description of the 2011 event. All teams must be FULLY registered on or before 24th February. ABSOLUTELY no late registrations will be accepted. We have automatic pre registration for all teams on line fmnow at www.entr.ie

Please be aware Due to the phenomenal growth in Light Contact, Light Contact will be starting on Friday night, so all ligh contact fighters must be weighed in by 5pm on Friday 6th March.

We are very proud of what the Irish Open has become; it really is an amazing event, with so many international fighters. This truly gives your students a rare opportunity to compete against international fighters of the same level. We look forward to seeing all our friends at what is a very unique get together of the world’s most talented Martial Artist Athletes in what will be an inspirational weekend filled with energy and passion unmatched in the fighting tournament scene
today.

Soul Night Of Champions

On Thursday, December 18, 2014 in city of Novi Sad WAKO PRO had another spectacular promotion. This time it was event "Soul Night Of Champions" promoted by Mr. Darko Popivoda, president of promoting company "Mega Promotion System" in cooperation with Kickboxing federation of Novi Sad and Serbian kickboxing federation and all under the patronage of city of Novi Sad. In front of 3.000 spectators and live TV broadcast on TV B92 from Serbia and TV Mreza from Croatia fighters has shown their really best and made another memorable evening.

In opening program audience could see three very good fights.
First one was in low kick division where better of two young fighters was Luka Spremo. After three very hard rounds he defeated by split decision Milos Keljanovic.
Second fight was ladies fight in K1 rules, 70 kg between two silver medalist from last European Championships in Bilbao. Better one this time was Aleksandra Krstic, silver medalist in K1 rules, 70 kg. She defeated Tijana Srdic, silver medalist from Bilbao in low kick, 70 kg.
Third fight was in low kick, 86 kg. Very good and experience fighter from Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Marjanovic defeated by RSCH young Serbian fighter Milos Markovic.
First of three main fights of the evening was for WAKO PRO European title between Laszlo Szabo from Hungary and Miljan Vidovic from Serbia. That was real war. Both fighters with very aggressive style showed to all why they are among the best in this moment. During first round Miljan Vidovic got injury on his left shin bone. It was huge cut that made him a lot of problems during next four rounds. Laszlo Szabo managed to come close and deliver some hard punches. Miljan Vidovic has tried to keep him on distance. After four rounds they were almost equal on scoring papers but then fight was decided in last round. Miljan Vidovic has given his best in last three minutes and that was little bit more that Laszlo could do.
Judges had scored:
Marco Pacor from Italy 49:48 for Vidovic
Michaela Kovachova from Slovakia 49:48 for Szabo
Jelena Kuburic from Serbia 50:46 for Vidovic
Winning by split decision Vidovic became new WAKO PRO European Champion in K1 rules, 81.4oo kg.
Second of main fights was debut of former NBA star, winner of NBA Championship with Detroit Pistons, Darko Milicic in WAKO PRO K1 rules.
His opponent was Radovan Radojcin, young Serbian fighter. That was clash of the titans. Radovan Radojcin with his 197 cm and 95 kg is not a small man but when he stood in front of Darko Milicic with his 213 cm and 138 kg he looked like a baby...
But height and weight of Milicic did not made him scared. He accepted open fight from the same beginning. In first round they have both exchanged many kicks with some of them real good, strong and precise. Milicic was going forward pushing Radojcin with strong middle kicks and punches mostly with his left hand. Radojcin answer were low kicks. Unfortunately, like in previous fight, almost on the same place as Vidovic, Milicic got injury. After the first round official doctor managed to close this cut but in the first part of second round it opened again and that was the end of the first kickboxing fight of former second pick on NBA draft.
Winner by RSC was Radovan Radojcin.
The main event of the evening, WAKO PRO World title bout in low kick, 88.6oo kg, proved what all have been expecting. Nenad Pagonis and Agron Preteni are the best two fighters at the moment in this weight class.
They have presented everything beautiful that kickboxing can bring to us. Tempo, hard punches, astonishing kicks, technique were the elements of this brilliant fight.
Nenad Pagonis started from first round to keep Preteni on distance and to score points with precise kicks and punches. Preteni was going forward and has tried to cut the distance. He managed to do it couple of times in first three rounds but in many occasions he was stopped by Nenad's right hook. First three round were under the domination of Nenad Pagonis. In fourth round Preteni has finally reached his target and Pagonis was in big trouble. That was the round he lost. In fifth Preteni gave his best but that was not enough.
Judges has scored:
Marco Pacor from Italy 49:48 for Pagonis
Michaela Kovachova from Slovakia 49:47 for Pagonis
Jelena Kuburic from Serbia 49:46 for Pagonis
Referee was Zoran Simurina from Serbia.
Supervisor of the whole event was Srdjan Bugarcic, WAKO PRO Technical Supervisor.
The most important fact, beside the great fights, fer play and thrue spirit of kickboxing, is that live broadcast on TV B 92 reached number of almost 1.200.000 people.
