Report on Rimini World Championships 2014

Dear all fantastic kickboxing enthusiasts,

rimini news reportThe World Cadets ad Junior Championships in beautiful Rimini, Italy, has come to an end.
In total 2.056 enthusiastic athletes from 52 countries united to show the power of the youth. Before I say anything else Thank you to the Promoters Gianfranco Rizzi and Barbara Falsoni and their team. Thank you to the Organizing Committee and thank you to all referees and judges. The event was fantastic and the Sport-Hall was just spot on. Even though such a big event the facilities were great and still we had intimacy to strengthen the kickboxing family. Not only the sport-hall was good, the setup, the podium, the medal and trophies were great. When being in a place like Rimini with many small hotels, it is always with some excitement how the logistics will be. The result was good due to precise and great planning. The logistics worked, the food was good and in general, when handling approx 2.500 people I must say I am satisified with the event, in total. We have a job to do to constantly publish the results and to build enthusiasm for those who are not present.
The streaming online was important this year as well and lead to publicity. In total 13.500 people streamed the Championship. It is a great number, but it also tells about the possibility we have using the social media for advertisement. All continents in WAKO were present and some countries as expected, like Russia, Italy, Hungary and Ireland took a big bite of the cake. However, I think it is my duty to also mention those who really produced results, more than expected.

-Turkey has created a power that few country can match. They control all disciplines and for the first time in history they got a gold in light contact.
-Mexico was a surprise. They entered with a big team and dominated partly the tatami and especially in Point fighting. Several medals and good performance in the Team Fight show that Mexico will be a dominating country from PanAm. A great team, a infectious enthusiasm and a good spirit.
Looking forward to see them again next year.
-Bulgaria; What has happened? Suddenly they were all over, producing medals. I was surprised especially in the Point Fighting and in the team fight you saw how good they have become. I will indeed look carefully on their development. Watch out!
-South Africa; a big team with great athletes. Always giving their best and so very polite in all they do. I really hope we will see more medals from them. Pat, you have a great team
-Madagascar; I got proud. For the first time gold in a Championship. Not only one, but two. Their team and their President almost «exploded» by the result. Not only that, their fighter in Kick-Light, also received the prize of the best male athlete in Kick-Light.
We know already that Isle of Mauritius produce fantastic athletes, but now Madagascar have merged. Watch out. Congratulations to Briand Andrianirina and his great team.
-Oceania; New Zealand sent a great team and I was indeed surprised to see the team from Australia. From many years we have missed their participation. Great to have you with us and I really hope that you got inspired from this event.

In short; WAKO have a great future! May I congratulate all the athletes and the medalists in particular. When seeing the faces of victory and the joy of winning, I get proud. When observing the dissapointment in their losses, whether is in the final or in the eliminiations, I get emotional and it shows the dedication and the love for the sport, even for 10 year old cadets. My advise for all those who are dissapointed – learn from it. It will make you a winner. You are all winners as you all show sportsmanship. Coming up - the European Championships in Bilbao, see you there!

Ufa press conference dedicated to the Olympic prospects of kickboxing

Ufa will help kickboxing to become an Olympic discipline

Ufa held a press conference dedicated to the Olympic prospects of kickboxing on July 3, 2014.

An important step towards inclusion of kickboxing into a list of Olympic disciplines will become 1st World Kickboxing Student Championship, which will be held in Ufa on July 12-17,2014. Vice President of Kickboxing Federation of Russia, member of the Supreme Council of the Russian Union of Martial Arts Rishat Salimovich Sayapov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Physical Culture and Sport Administration of the City of Ufa Ruslan Giniyatovich Bikimbetov and Head of the department of physical education and exercise therapy of the Bashkir State Medical University Ruslan Anvarovich Gainullin were explaining sport journalists about what kind of role the capital of Republic of Bashkortostan will play in the fate of this spectacular sport.

Also video call with the capital of Norway – the city of Oslo was arranged during the press conference, during which the journalists had opportunity to ask some questions to Mr. Espen Lund - Acting Head of International World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO).

Rishat Sayapov told at the press conference that huge work is being done today to incorporate kickboxing in the Olympic program. Drawbacks hindering the event are being excluded. One of the problems until recently was the absence of the European Federation of Kickboxing. But that problem was eliminated. In December Turkey held a world congress where European Federation of World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO) was created.

Lack of kickboxing in the program of student international sports (FISU) is the next problem.  Creation of the Student Kickboxing Development Committee of WAKO and organization of WAKO joining FISU must contribute to resolve that problem. Co-chairs Boyan Kolev (Bulgaria) and Rishat Sayapov (Russia) are leading Student Kickboxing Committee of WAKO together.

At the first meeting of the student committee was decided to hold a 1st World Kickboxing Student Championship under the patronage of FISU in 2014 in Ufa. This event will be an important step towards inclusion kickboxing in Olympic games.

Entry of kickboxing into an official Universiade program is already planned for 2016. Further integration of this type of sport in all of the world's largest sports organizations provides a basis for the formation of the application to the Olympic Program.

With regard to the 1st World Kickboxing Student Championship - it will be held in Ufa from 12 to 17 July 2014 on the basis of sports center of Bashkir State Medical University. Judges, athletes and fans from more than 20 countries around the world will watch the competitions. A big opening ceremony, solo performances, contact fights and intriguing competitions are planned in the program of the championship.

As noted during a direct connection with Acting Head of World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO) Espen Lund from Norwegian Oslo, student championship is historic not only for Russia, but also for the whole sports world and the world of kickboxing in particular. He stressed that Russia plays a huge role in the development of martial arts. Espen Lund also described the level of modern Russian athletes as very high.

According to Espen Lund, 1st World Kickboxing Student Championship is of great importance for the further development of Kickboxing as a sport. WAKO already achieved that it was included in the program of the World Games. Now the higher bar is to get into the Olympics. 1st World Kickboxing Student Championship is designed to help in this task, as one of important stages in this long and difficult path.

Espen Lund also admitted that WAKO is currently preparing a package of documents for the recognition by the International Olympic Committee. This kind of news Ufa journalists heard first in the world.

Conducting world-class championship in Ufa became possible thanks to the support of the general partner of the competition – company Bashavtokom. The organizers of the championship are World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO), Federation of Kickboxing of Russia (FKR), with the support of Administration of the City of Ufa of Republic of Bashkortostan, Russian Athletic Student Union and International Student Organization Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU).
